As Microsoft continues rolling out the Microsoft Outlook: Store App—also known as the New Outlook or One Outlook—users are increasingly curious about its compatibility with Google Workspace (Gmail) accounts, especially when it comes to syncing contacts.
The Outlook for Windows app available via the Microsoft Store is Microsoft’s modern, lightweight email client that aims to replace the old Mail & Calendar apps. It provides a sleek interface and integrates well with Microsoft 365 and personal email accounts like Outlook.com, Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud.
When you add your Gmail or Google Workspace account to the Outlook Store App, it successfully syncs:
? Emails
? Calendars
Unfortunately, Google Contacts do not sync with the Microsoft Outlook: Store App.
Why?
The New Outlook does not currently support CardDAV, the protocol Google uses to sync contacts.
It also lacks support for COM add-ins or plugins that allow third-party syncing tools.
So even though your Gmail account appears in the app, your contact list from Gmail or Google Workspace will not be imported or updated in real-time.
The full desktop version of Outlook (included in Microsoft 365) supports integration with tools that can sync Google Contacts, such as:
✅ gSyncit (paid, advanced features)
✅ GO Contact Sync Mod (free, limited but effective)
✅ Contacts Sync for Google Gmail (available via third-party vendors)
⚠️ Note: These tools only work with the classic Outlook desktop app, not the Store App.
You can export your Google contacts and manually import them to Outlook:
In Google Contacts: Click Export → Select Outlook CSV
In Outlook.com (if linked): Go to People → Manage → Import Contacts
Contacts added this way won’t stay in sync — it's a one-time snapshot
At present, Microsoft has not added native support for syncing Google Contacts in the Store version of Outlook. While email and calendar sync seamlessly, contacts remain a missing link.
The Microsoft Outlook: Store App (New Outlook) is a promising step forward in modern email clients but lacks essential features like Google Contacts syncing.
If contact synchronization is crucial for your workflow:
? Use the Microsoft 365 Outlook Desktop App with a tool like gSyncit
?️ Or manually export/import as needed
? Wait for future updates—Microsoft is still actively improving the Store App, and contact sync may be added later
