Recording a web meeting as a participant can be tricky, especially when using Bluetooth headphones, which often conflict with system audio recording on Windows. Whether you're attending a Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams call, here’s how to effectively record everything — screen, audio, and microphone — even if you are not the host.
Bluetooth headsets typically operate in two modes:
Stereo (A2DP): High-quality audio, but no mic support
Hands-Free (HFP/HSP): Mic support, but low-quality audio
Windows cannot simultaneously use both, meaning if your Bluetooth headphones are active with a mic, you might lose system audio recording capability.
OBS Studio is a free, open-source screen recorder that captures:
Your entire screen or specific window
Your microphone (laptop or external)
Your system sound (what you hear)
Get it from https://obsproject.com. Install and open the program.
Click + under Sources
Add Display Capture → to record your screen
Add Audio Input Capture → choose your mic
Add Audio Output Capture → choose "Speakers" (not Bluetooth headset)
Go to Settings → Sound
Set Output device to Laptop Speakers
Keep Input device as Microphone
This allows OBS to capture all sounds while you continue watching on screen.
Press Start Recording in OBS before your meeting begins
Press Stop Recording when done
Files are saved in your Videos
folder
Use wired earphones instead of Bluetooth. This way, OBS can record system sound and microphone simultaneously without changing any settings.
Enable "Stereo Mix" from your Recording Devices if supported. It records exactly what your system plays — useful for capturing perfect audio alongside your mic.
OBS Studio gives you full control over screen and sound capture, and with the simple trick of temporarily switching audio output, you can record your web meetings — even with Bluetooth headphones — effectively.
