Tally Prime is one of the most widely used accounting software for businesses. Whether you're setting it up for the first time or reinstalling, this guide will walk you through the steps to install Tally Prime and configure the data folder to store your business files.

Step 1: Download Tally Prime

1. Visit the official Tally Solutions website and navigate to the Download section.
2. Select Tally Prime and click on Download. The setup file will be saved to your computer.

Step 2: Install Tally Prime

1. Locate the Downloaded File: After the file is downloaded, navigate to the folder where the setup file (e.g., TallyPrime.exe) is saved.
2. Run the Setup: Double-click on the setup file to start the installation process.
3. Select Installation Folder: The default installation folder is usually C:\Program Files\TallyPrime. If you wish to change the installation directory, click on Change and select your preferred location.
4. Click Install: Once you’ve confirmed the location, click Install. The setup will start extracting files and installing Tally Prime on your system.
5. Finish the Installation: After installation, click Done to finish the process.

Step 3: Activate Tally Prime License

1. Open Tally Prime: Launch Tally Prime from your desktop or Start Menu.
2. Activate License: When prompted, select the option to Activate License. You'll need a valid serial number, activation key, and admin email ID provided by Tally Solutions.
3. Enter the License Details: Fill in the required fields and follow the prompts to complete the license activation.
4. Complete Activation: Once the license is activated, Tally Prime will be fully functional.

Step 4: Set Data Folder in Tally Prime

By default, Tally stores company data in the C:\Users\Public\TallyPrime\Data folder. However, you can set your own preferred folder location for storing company data.

To Change the Data Folder:

1. Launch Tally Prime: Open Tally Prime from your desktop.
2. Access Data Configuration:
   • From the Gateway of Tally, press F1 (Help) or click on Settings.
   • Select Data Path from the list.
3. Change Data Path:
   • Click on the existing path and type or browse to the folder where you want to store your Tally data.
   • For example, if you want to store data in D:\Tally Data, input that folder path here.
4. Save the New Data Folder:
   • Once you’ve set the new path, press Ctrl + A to save the changes.

Your new data folder is now configured. All your company files will be stored in the designated folder from now on.

Step 5: Verify the Data Folder

1. Open Tally Prime: After changing the data folder, go back to the Gateway of Tally.
2. Check Company List: Ensure that the company files you wish to work with are visible. If not, you may need to import them from your previous data folder.
3. Load Company: Select your company and start working.

• Backup Data Regularly: It's a good practice to back up your Tally data folder regularly. You can use cloud services or external drives for secure backups.
• Multiple Companies: You can manage multiple companies by keeping their data in separate folders within the main Tally data folder.
