Microsoft Outlook is a powerful email and calendar application used by millions, but it lacks built-in support for CardDAV—the standard protocol used to sync contact data from services like Google Contacts, iCloud, Nextcloud, and others. This can be a hurdle if you're trying to keep your contacts in sync across devices and services.
Fortunately, there's a solution: you can use third-party tools to bridge the gap and enable seamless CardDAV contact synchronization with Outlook.
Outlook does not include built-in support for CardDAV, which means it cannot directly connect to servers offering contacts via CardDAV protocols. You’ll need a connector or sync tool to make it work.
The most reliable and popular free tool to sync CardDAV with Outlook is Outlook CalDav Synchronizer.

? Supports both CardDAV (contacts) and CalDAV (calendars)
✅ Compatible with Google Contacts, iCloud, Nextcloud, Synology, and other CardDAV providers
Install the tool and restart Outlook.
Go to the new CalDav Synchronizer tab.
Click Add new profile → choose Generic CardDAV.
Enter:
Name (e.g., “Google Contacts”)
CardDAV URL (provided by your service)
Username and Password or OAuth token
Map it to the Outlook Contacts folder you want to sync.
Save and run Manual Sync, or set it to auto-sync.
Google Workspace Sync (GWSMO) – for paid Google accounts
iCloud for Windows – sync iCloud contacts and calendars
Synology Contacts Plugin – for users hosting their own server
Use app-specific passwords if your CardDAV provider uses two-factor authentication (2FA).
Enable encryption (HTTPS) for all sync URLs to protect your data.
Even though Microsoft Outlook does not support CardDAV out of the box, tools like Outlook CalDav Synchronizer offer a reliable workaround. Whether you're using a public cloud like Google or a private CardDAV server, syncing your contacts to Outlook is now entirely possible.
