Sometimes in Tally Prime, you may see a screen asking you to allocate a small amount like βΉ0.45 to a cost centre.
If you do not use Cost Centres for Round Off values, this screen can feel unnecessary and confusing.
The good news: This can be easily disabled.
Tally shows the Cost Allocation screen when:
Cost Centres are enabled in your company
The ledger (like Round Off) is set to use Cost Centres
Even a very small value needs distribution
So, Tally is simply following your settings.
You may face this when:
β Entering vouchers
β Saving invoices
β Using automatic round off
β Posting very small amounts
Especially if you do not actually use Cost Centres.
Use this if you do not use Cost Centres at all.
Open Tally Prime
Press F11 (Features)
Select Accounting Features
Find:
Maintain Cost Centres
Set it to:
No
Save the settings
β This removes cost allocation screens everywhere.
Use this if you use Cost Centres for other ledgers, but not Round Off.
Go to Chart of Accounts
Open Ledgers
Select your Round Off ledger
Choose Alter
Find:
Cost Centre Applicable
Set it to:
No
Save
β This stops the screen only for rounding entries.
You save a voucher β
Tally shows:
βCost Allocations for: Round Offβ
Amount: βΉ0.45
Even though it is just rounding.
β This is normal behaviour based on settings.
β Fix: Check if Round Off ledger is set to Cost Centre Applicable = Yes
β Fix: Those ledgers are also marked Cost Centre Applicable
β Fix: If you do not track department/project expenses β Safe to disable
Before turning off Cost Centres:
β Confirm your business does not need departmental tracking
β Check with accountant if unsure
β Understand that past data remains, but new tracking stops
β Keep Round Off ledger β Cost Centre Applicable = No
β Use Cost Centres only when needed
β Avoid unnecessary allocation screens
β Review ledger settings during setup
The Cost Allocation screen is not an error β it is simply Tally following your configuration.
With a quick settings change, you can stop it permanently and simplify your workflow.
