The Phillips screwdriver has a cross-shaped + tip and is probably the most familiar screwdriver used in electronics, computers, appliances, furniture, and general repair.

Common sizes: PH000, PH00, PH0, PH1, PH2, PH3 and PH4.

Torx uses a distinctive six-lobed star-shaped drive.

Common sizes include:

T1, T2, T3, T4, T5, T6, T7, T8, T9, T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30, T40 and larger.

For computers, laptops and phones, T2–T10 are especially useful.

Torx provides excellent engagement between the bit and screw, can transmit relatively high torque and is less prone to cam-out than Phillips.

4. Security Torx / Tamper-Resistant Torx — TR

Pozidriv looks similar to Phillips but includes additional smaller ribs between the main cross slots.

Common sizes are PZ0, PZ1, PZ2 and PZ3.

It provides improved engagement and torque transfer compared with traditional Phillips in suitable screws.

It is frequently encountered in European hardware, furniture, electrical installations and construction.

A PZ2 screw is not the same as PH2. Using the wrong driver can produce poor engagement and damage the screw head.


6. JIS — Japanese Industrial Standard Cross-Point

Pentalobe is a five-lobed drive associated particularly with Apple hardware.

Two important repair sizes are:

P2 — 0.8 mm: commonly used for exterior screws on many iPhones.

P5 — 1.2 mm: commonly encountered on MacBook bottom-case screws.

Other pentalobe sizes exist, so technicians should identify the device before selecting a bit.

Pentalobe should not be confused with Torx. Torx has six lobes, whereas Pentalobe has five.


10. Tri-point / Y-Type

A precision screwdriver is really a size/tool category rather than one screw-drive standard.

Precision handles accept very small bits intended for:
