Launching a podcast is exciting, but a smooth recording session demands much more than hitting the “record” button. Whether you're in a basic home studio or a professional chroma-equipped setup, careful preparation can make or break your final output.
Here’s a comprehensive Podcast Pre-Shoot Checklist to ensure your episode is clean, professional, and stress-free:
Confirm podcast episode title and topic.
Verify full name and designation of the host and guest (with correct spelling).
Determine how the guest will be introduced — what title or role?
Print or prep a short bio for the host to use during introduction.
Send outline/questions to the guest in advance.
Ensure guest is briefed on episode format, timing, and expectations.
Charge all cameras, mics, and lighting gear.
Set correct white balance and resolution (1080p or 4K).
Lock focus on subject (avoid autofocus hunting).
Test and set proper frame rate (24/25/30 fps).
Clean camera lens.
Test microphones (lapel, boom, or USB mics).
Monitor audio levels (no peaking).

If using chroma: Ensure no green clothing and proper lighting on background.
Silence mobile phones, tablets, and other noise-making devices.
Clean up visible background and props.
Ensure no reflective surfaces or distractions behind subject.
Remove unnecessary cables or clutter from the frame.
Confirm stable power supply (no interruptions).
Guide posture: Sit upright but relaxed.
Water or refreshments provided nearby.
Check that shoes (if visible) are clean or presentable.
Avoid jewelry that may clink or interfere with audio.
Warm-up conversation before recording to ease nerves.
