DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is an email authentication method that adds a digital signature to your outgoing emails. It prevents spoofing and ensures that receiving mail servers can verify your domain as trusted.
To enable DKIM in Google Workspace, you must add a TXT record in your domainβs DNS settings.
Many hosting providers limit TXT record length to 255 characters per segment.
Googleβs DKIM keys are ~410 characters long, so some DNS panels:
βοΈ Accept full DKIM value but display only part of it
β Or TRUNCATE automatically if pasted incorrectly
This causes DKIM to fail verification.
The DNS standard (RFC 1035) allows TXT strings up to 255 characters per segment.
When longer values are needed, DNS allows splitting the value into multiple quoted strings on one record β the system automatically joins them together.
Host / TXT Record Name:
google._domainkey
DKIM TXT Record Value (Split)
? Part 1:
? Part 2:
β οΈ Requirements:
Keep exact characters β no changes
Quotes must remain around each chunk
One space between chunks only if on same line
Save as one TXT record
DNS will join them automatically when queried.
? In Google Admin Console:
1οΈβ£ Go to Apps β Google Workspace β Gmail
2οΈβ£ Select Authenticate Email
3οΈβ£ Click Start Authentication or Check Status
? DNS propagation may take 5 minutes to 48 hours.
When successful, status becomes:
βοΈ Authenticating / Valid
? Donβt paste partial or truncated strings
? Donβt create two different TXT records
? Donβt remove extra quotes or spaces inside strings
Wrong formatting β DKIM Fail β Emails may land in spam β
| Benefit | Impact |
|---|---|
| Prevents spoofing | Stops hackers sending fake emails from your domain |
| Improves mailbox trust | Better deliverability to Gmail, Yahoo, Office 365 |
| Avoids spam folder issues | Email reputation protection |
| Provider | Supported? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | βοΈ | Paste multiple strings automatically |
| GoDaddy | βοΈ | Must paste split version |
| cPanel / WebHost Manager | βοΈ | Sometimes shows two text boxes |
| BigRock / ResellerClub | βοΈ | Required splitting |
| Hostinger, Bluehost | βοΈ | Single field but supports quoted splits |
If you want, I can give exact screenshots and instructions for your DNS provider β just tell me the name. ?
If your DKIM record is too long for DNS, splitting into 255-character segments fixes truncation instantly and ensures proper authentication.
This step boosts your email security, deliverability, and reputation.
