If you're experiencing an issue where pressing Alt+Tab shows a minimized window with the mysterious text "Learn how to c"—and especially if you're using Microsoft Edge—you're not alone. This strange behavior is usually tied to how Windows handles Edge tabs in the Alt+Tab switcher.
Starting with Windows 10 version 2004 and continuing into Windows 11, Microsoft added a feature that allows Edge browser tabs to appear individually when you use Alt+Tab. While this can be useful for multitasking, it can also lead to confusion—especially when a tab title doesn’t render correctly, like showing partial or odd text such as "Learn how to c".
This is not a bug in Edge or Windows, but a configuration option. Thankfully, you can turn it off easily.
Follow these steps to remove Edge tabs from appearing as separate windows when pressing Alt+Tab:
Open Settings
Press Windows key + I
to open the Settings app.
Go to System
In the left sidebar, click System.
Select Multitasking
Choose Multitasking from the sidebar options.
Locate the Alt+Tab Settings
Scroll to find the section labeled Alt + Tab.
Adjust the Setting
Under "Show tabs from apps when snapping or pressing Alt+Tab", you’ll see a dropdown.
Set It to “Don’t Show”
From the dropdown menu, select Don't show tabs from apps (or just "Don't show", depending on your version).
By selecting “Don’t show”, you tell Windows not to show individual Microsoft Edge tabs in the Alt+Tab switcher. Instead, only the main Edge window will appear—cleaning up your Alt+Tab interface and removing confusing entries like “Learn how to c”.
Cleaner and more focused Alt+Tab experience
Prevents partial tab titles from appearing (like “Learn how to c”)
Reduces visual clutter when multitasking
Avoids accidental switching to hidden or background tabs
Improves overall workflow and performance on older machines
If Edge continues to behave oddly, you may also want to disable its background activity:
In Edge, go to edge://settings/system
Turn off "Continue running background extensions and apps when Microsoft Edge is closed"
This issue isn't a bug, but a feature you may not need. Disabling tab previews in Alt+Tab is the quickest way to clean up your task switching experience and avoid cryptic window titles like "Learn how to c". It’s a simple settings adjustment that improves usability.
